School Meals

At St. George’s all our meals are cooked on site using fresh meat, fruit and vegetables. Children can choose from the meal option of the day or Jacket Potato and salad. Vegetarians and special diets can be catered for.

Children can opt in and out of school lunches, having a school meal as many or as few days a week as they wish.  All we ask is that school meals for junior children are paid for weekly in advance, preferably at the beginning of each week.  Dinner money should be handed by your child to their class teacher at registration, in a named envelope clearly stating the number of meals required.  A school meal is currently £2.45 per day.

All infant children i.e. those children in FS2, Year 1 and 2 are entitled to receive a free school meal.  If however your child is entitled to free school meals because you are in receipt of qualifying benefits, please complete a free school meals application form as this will enable the school to receive Pupil Premium funding for your child which will benefit their education.

A 3 week Menu is produced each term and sent out via the school Newsletter.  The Menu rotates weekly during the term.

Autumn term 2022

Our school menu meets the Government’s Nutritional Standards for Schools and we offer:

  • hot meals using fresh local fruit and vegetables 5 days a week
  • chilled drinking water available to all children throughout the day
  • meals lower in salt and fat
  • promotion of healthy eating incorporated into the curriculum

As well as sandwiches or bread rolls, packed lunches should include some fresh fruit or vegetables i.e. pieces of fruit, cherry tomatoes, raw carrot, cucumber sticks. Sweets and chocolate are discouraged. Children may bring low sugar squash or fruit juice to drink. Fresh water is always provided on the tables. No glass bottles are allowed.

We take part in the Free Fruit & Veg Scheme, which means all infant children have a piece of fruit or veg (such as carrots or baby tomatoes) every day at break time.

Milk is also available to all children at break time.  It is free to under 5’s.  You can apply for school milk:
